STEP 1: Merchant Account Security
Merchant providers such as Stripe, Authorize.net, and PayPal Payment Pro have settings to strictly verify credit card billing address information. We recommend you enable these features with your own merchant account.
STEP 2: Shen Yun Tickets Anti-Scalping Settings
The Shen Yun Tickets platform has limits to block patrons from making repeated, large, or suspicious ticket orders across all Shen Yun events worldwide. These settings are enabled by default, but you can also contact us to make them more strict:
Option “Default”
Max 20 tickets per order
Max 20 tickets per season
Option “Strict”
Max 8 tickets per order
Max 10 tickets per season
Option “Very Strict”
Max 5 tickets per order
Max 8 tickets per season
The system considers a user to be the same if they match on any of the following:
· Credit card number (does not apply for Stripe)
· Phone number (billing or shipping)
· Email address (billing or shipping)
· Address and postal code (billing or shipping)
Email Blacklist
The system also maintains a global email blacklist. This blocks users who use suspicious email domains, disposable emails, or any manually flagged email addresses. If any customer reports an error message with the reference code “SEDB”, that indicates it was blocked by the email blacklist. Please reach out to support@shenyuntickets.com if you have any recommendations for additions to the blacklist.
STEP 3: Orders by Billing Address Distance Report
The system report “Orders by Billing Address Distance” shows all your orders sorted by how far away the billing address is from the venue location. Most valid orders are within 100 miles or 150 km from their venue, so ticket managers can analyze and identify potential fraud or scalper activity by running this report periodically and identifying orders with a greater distance.
STEP 4: Provide Digital Wallet Payment Options
Providing additional digital wallet payment methods like PayPal Express Checkout (with guest checkout disabled), Apple Pay, or Google Pay payment options can lower the volume of orders to monitor for potential fraud and disputes. If your patrons use these payment methods, it can help reduce disputes and make your patrons feel more secure.
Please contact us to enable these payment methods for your events.
STEP 5: Counter Actions Against Scalpers in the Week Before Your Show
Some presenters have found that scalping activity spikes within a week or two before the show. If you choose, you can take additional steps during this time:
1. Disable e-ticket delivery and allow only will call so that tickets are harder to resell. Please be mindful that will call pickup line will be longer and resources should be allocated accordingly.
2. Set your merchant account security settings to be more strict with address verification.
3. Set the scalping limits to even more strict, such as max 5 tickets per order (see above).
4. Monitor the “Orders by Billing Address Distance” report for suspicious orders and sharp increase in volume.
Future Features
We are continuously working on even more advanced anti-scalping features to be ready for next season. If you have specific suggestions or questions, we welcome your ideas.
